About the Artist
Passionate about raising awareness of Australia’s unique botanics and bird life species, South Australian watercolour painter Katie Sandison loves to create artworks which connect to the land through vibrant splashes and Impressionist strokes and illuminating metallic compositions. Her unique Australian fauna and fauna painting series was established in 2017 with the vision to capture purposeful documentation, highlight the importance of vulnerable, common, and extinct species through complimentary colour pallets. Her curated exhibitions has raised funds since 2020 for charitie and she continues to contribute to wildlife and environmental organisations.
An ECO BIO CUP artist from 2021-24, her ‘Blue wren couple with purple orchids’ was featured in the coffee cup artist series, throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
Katie started her art journey at the age of 1 & 1/2 when she drew all over the walls of her first home in the Adelaide Hills and her parents were still painting over the Texta marks as they were selling the Stirling home.
She attended Ruth Tuck Art School from the age of 7yrs and often spent time with the renowned water-colourist being a family friend. Ruth Tuck's Impressionist and modernist watercolour style of painting has had an enormous influence on Katie as an artist and art teacher. Her work reflects aspects of the romanticism of the English Pre-Raphaelites, the decorative gold from the Byzantine Art movement and stokes from French Impressionists, but with a definite Australian flavour.
