This story is based on the experiences of the author’s mother and mother-in-law during World War II.  Her mother worked in a defense factory in Chicago, and her mother-in-law was captured in her home in Niedzieliska, Poland, and taken to Germany to work in a labor camp.  The novel covers their lives and their successes beyond those experiences.
