Underwear Auction hosted by Mr VicBears 2024
For the Underwear Auction, I chose Pride Foundation Australia (PFA) as my charity because of my personal journey as an immigrant from a country where being gay is still stigmatized. Moving to Australia was daunting. I had to start in Melbourne from scratch, with no connections and the uncertainty of a new life. I empathize with refugees and asylum seekers, many of whom face even more difficult circumstances, especially due to the trauma they carry.
PFA is a national philanthropic organization that specifically funds LGBTQIA+ community issues in Australia. In 2020, PFA began focusing on the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ refugees and asylum seekers face, particularly the lack of affirming and culturally appropriate support. Through initiatives like the CRISP program, PFA financially supports the settlement of LGBTQIA+ refugees, helping them integrate and find a sense of belonging in Australia. Their work aligns with my own belief in the importance of fostering security, support, and community for those starting new lives in unfamiliar places.
