Steven Carson is a visual artist based in Hobart.  His art practice incorporates mixed media installations, sculptural objects and image-based artworks.

Carson holds Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from University of Tasmania (2016), and Master of Visual Arts from Queensland College of Art (1997).   He has taught in several Australian university art schools since 1998, including as South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia and School of Creative Arts and media, University of University of Tasmania. 

Prizes and awards include Whyalla Art Prize (2007), Helpmann Academy Artist in Residence, Sanskriti Kendra New Delhi India (2005), and the Moorilla Prize, City of Hobart Art Prize (1999).  Steven Carson has exhibited professionally since 1987, and his artworks by are held in the collections of Artbank, State Library of Queensland, University of Southern Queensland, Ipswich Regional Art Gallery, Toowoomba Regional Gallery and private collections within Australia.

Carson completed a Studio Residency at the University of Tasmania Rosamond McCullough Studio, Cite International des Arts in Paris as a recipient of a Marie Edwards Travelling Scholarship 2018.  This research-intensive creative development opportunity culminated in solo exhibitions ‘Vis-à-vis’ at Rosny Barn in 2020, and ‘Unrest’ at Moonah Arts Centre, in August 2021.
