Held in the afterlight
About this item
“Afterlight” refers to lingering emotions after a beautiful moment. Carved from soap — which naturally degrades over time — a burning candle sits in the centre, evoking visuals of a sundial, symbolising the ceaseless passage of time. It melts into a network of lines, representing the traces time leaves. Subtle blue and orange hues represent day and night, suggesting time’s continual movement. The work captures time’s impermanence, a reminder to cherish life’s moments before they come to pass.
