Snéhi Jarvis is an emerging artist who came to art after becoming visually impaired. Her vision, precarious since a child, deteriorated markedly in 2017-18, and despite this she followed her passion for creative experimentation, taking inspiration from artists such as Pollock, Rothko, Malevich, and Kandinsky. Her first solo exhibition: Elemental featured artworks situated in the abstract expressionism genre was held at the Kimono Lounge gallery Launceston in late 2018. Her second solo exhibition: Chasing the Light, held in April 2021 at the Precinct Gallery, University of Tasmania Inveresk Campus was part of her Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Snéhi extended her practice into landscape painting, and by chance found pastels and the genre of still life in 2020. She sees herself following in the footsteps of both historical and contemporary female artists within these two genres. Her current practice focuses on still life using pastel on both paper and canvas, influenced by the Old Master still life artists Cotan, Peeters, and Chardin, and the visually impaired pastel painters Degas and Cezanne. She sees her future practice to include curating, embracing the idea of being an artist-curator.
