Portraits of Santha Bhaskar

Two A2-sized oil portraits of Santha Bhaskar were painted by Year 6 Visual Arts student Michelle Yeo, for the School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA) annual fundraising show, Impact. This year’s show draws inspiration from the remarkable life and works of the late Mrs Santha Bhaskar, an iconic trailblazer in the world of Dance.

Mrs Bhaskar’s profound influence as an educator and mentor has shaped countless generations of students and dancers. What is amazing is her pioneering spirit that led her to explore cultural intersections through a multi-disciplinary lens, pushing the boundary of classical Indian dance, especially Bharatanatyam. Her courageous and creative approach has left an indelible mark on Singapore’s cultural landscape.

The portraits will be on display outside the SOTA Drama Theatre at Level 2 on 8 November, 7.30pm. Come join us at the fundraising show (tickets available for purchase here) and view the portraits in person.

Proceeds from the auction will go towards the SOTA Endowment Fund which provides students with bursaries, scholarships and other forms of financial assistance.
