‘Not Just A Box of Blocks’ is a richly layered mixed media work by artist Kylie Thulborn, created as a tribute to the beauty and meaning found in reclaimed objects.
At its heart are vintage hardwood children’s blocks, preserved in their original condition and reimagined within a sculptural frame of reclaimed tea tree bark. Thulborn carefully weaves together an extraordinary collection of materials, recycled leather, foraged shells, ethically sourced wallaby bone, repurposed copper wire, sea grass, hemp twine and touches of gold leaf, each element adding its own texture, history and quiet narrative.
The work speaks to nostalgia and memory: the simple blocks of childhood transformed into a tactile artwork that celebrates the stories embedded within everyday materials.
