“The BRCA2 gene runs heavily throughout my family tree and has directly affected my loved ones. This is my way to honour them. ‘The Garden of Soul’ is inspired by all of the strong women around me. Their journeys, strength and ability to flourish after adversity”
‘The Garden of Soul’ is an intricately hand-burned pyrography work by Kellie May Mannix, created over 25 meticulous hours using traditional freehand techniques. Etched into reclaimed invasive Jacaranda timber, the piece brings together portraiture and botanical symbolism in a meditation on growth, healing and inner connection.
With flowing hair carried on unseen currents and native florals blooming from the heart space, the artwork speaks to resilience, renewal and harmony with the natural world. Butterflies and detailed botanical forms emerge through careful tonal burning — each mark created by hand, without the use of laser technology — honouring the slow, deliberate craft of pyrography.
Formed on raw-edged timber that preserves the organic contour of the tree, ‘The Garden of Soul’ is both artwork and object — a tactile, earthy piece that bridges fine art and natural sculpture.
A striking, distinctive and intimate work for collectors who appreciate craftsmanship, storytelling and sustainable creative practice.
