About the Artist
Liss Finney (b. 1992, Lutruwita / Tasmania) is a multidisciplinary Australian artist living on Awabakal Country in Newcastle, NSW. Her work spans across a variety of media, predominantly working with paint and installation. A key part of Finney’s practice involves exploring different forms of expressive process to investigate human connection and experience within the modern and natural world. Her works often interchange between the simple and beautiful act of observation, to complex issues of environmental concern and examinations of social ideologies regarding gender, spirituality and mortality. Finney has a background in Scientific Illustration, holding a Bachelor Degree with Distinction in Natural History Illustration from the University of Newcastle, and is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School, majoring in painting. Finney has exhibited across NSW, undertaken an artist residency at NES in Iceland in 2017 and was awarded the 2019 Hall and Wilcox Emerging Artist Prize. Recently she has been a finalist in the 2020 Blake Prize, the 2021 Gosford Art Prize, 2021 Little Things Art Prize, 2021 National Emerging Art Prize and the 2021 Hawkesbury Art Prize.
