This series of intimate portraits was inspired by a close friend’s personal journey through reconstructive surgery.
As a teenager Alanya was told by medical professionals that her breasts were deformed and that the only way for her to enjoy intimacy, affection, love was implants. Her brave decision to have the implants removed and her breasts reconstructed using her own body fat was liberating.

About the Artist
I am an Australian-based multidisciplinary artist and mother of four. My practice is informed by personal life experience, things I see around me and issues I am confronted within the media. Loss is a theme that has run a thread throughout my work; loss of innocence, faith, autonomy; ageing, death, and bereavement. I am driven by a need to express personal ideas and feelings, rather than any desire to please the viewer with comfortable images.
