Callun's Charity Auction
Callun is a 16-year-old who suffers from the life-threatening condition of Chiari Malformation. This disease causes Callun severe head and neck pain, pins and needles down his arms, and loss of muscle strength in his upper body. Without this surgery, Callun won't make it to his 20th birthday. There is also an increased risk that every day he suffers from this untreated condition, the CSF flow issue can cause a cyst in the spinal cord called Syringomyelia, leading to paralysis and loss of bladder control.
Michaela and her three sons are just a normal family, who live week to week and have managed to save $10,000 for this procedure, but they still require an additional $22,000 to get Callun the surgery he requires to have the normal life every child deserves.
Callun's family will need to stay with him in Sydney after the procedure for at least nine days because he will be in the High Dependency Ward. Michaela, Callun's mum, must also take time off work to be with her son. Additionally, there is also an increased risk there will need to be further surgeries, totalling a similar amount, to improve his quality of life.
