Wollemi Pine Auction

The Wollemi Pine, often called a 'living fossil,' was thought to be extinct until its remarkable rediscovery in 1994 within a secluded gorge in Wollemi National Park. Thanks to successful propagation efforts led by the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, this ancient species has not only been preserved but reintroduced into new habitats. The Wollemi Pine has become a beloved garden feature, thriving in suitable climates across Australia and around the world, from Japan to the USA and Europe.

Since its rediscovery, the Wollemi Pine has become a global sensation. Efforts to propagate this rare tree began soon after, with the first saplings released to the public at an auction in 2005. Now, for the first time in almost 20 years, the Botanic Gardens of Sydney is releasing six rare Wollemi Pines for public auction in celebration of its 30th discovery anniversary. These trees were propagated by a dedicated team of scientists directly from the original Wollemi Pine colony discovered 30 years ago. As a result, finding a Wollemi Pine of this pedigree available for sale is nearly impossible to find anywhere else in the world.

But hurry! These six Wollemi Pines are rare, in high demand, and sure to sell out. Place your bid today to own one of these extraordinary trees and help us protect the natural world for future generations.

Place your bid today! Bidding closes 8PM, Sunday 22 September 2024.

All proceeds from the auction will support the Rainforest Seed Conservation Program at the Botanic Gardens of Sydney.
