Cellers de Scala Dei - La Cartoixa 1974 DO Priorat (Lot#2)
About this item
Scala Dei is the winery with the oldest origins in Priorat as their facilities are those originally used by the monks who established the monastery and this is the oldest bottled wine in Priorat, from the 1974 vintage.
This wine is a blend of majority Grenache and minority Carignan and the first wine produced which showed the potential of the region, attracting the group in the 1980s to build upon the work that was done in the 1970s.
While there were 105,000 bottles of this wine produced originally, there are now known to be just over 100 in existence, all at the premises of the winery from which this was wine was kindly donated from their dwindling and exceedingly rare stock and showing good ullage for the age. They've not sold this wine for many years now.
When opened sparingly from time to time, these wines still show very well with evolved tertiary notes and great length that, at nearly 50 years in age now, attest to the durability of the wines from the Priorat region.
Note that the wine being bid upon is the bottle pictured.
