About the Artist
Daryl usually paints in water colour but not in a traditional method as she often
works on water resistant canvas papers. In many of her works the backgrounds
are created using an airbrush giving them an almost photographic feel. It is the
intricate detail that is painstakingly painted with a fine brush that make her
painted works so outstanding. Fine-line design works are also included in her collection as are works in acrylic, oil and charcoal.
She is an author and illustrator; publication of Celebrating Australia’s Magnificent
Wildlife – The Art of Daryl Dickson by Exisle Publishing in October 2020 with a
second edition published in 2025. It is a magnificent collection of Daryl’s works. She has also illustrated three beautiful children’s wildlife books: Glissandra the Glider, Hull River Rolley & Paddy O’Melon the Irish Kangaroo.
Daryl lives on Girramay country in far north Queensland. She is a member of the
Wildlife Artist Society of Australasia, Queensland Wildlife Art Society, Birdlife
Australia and Wildlife Queensland. Her passion for Australian wildlife is evident in her artwork that depicts the fine detail of Australia's unique flora and fauna. She divides her time between art, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation; sharing her passion for the natural environment. She has spent much of the last two decades working with the endangered mahogany glider. The conservation of this
beautiful, threatened gliding possum and its limited remaining woodland habitat
in tropical north Queensland is the inspiration for her art and life.
"My two great passions in life are wildlife and art. Through my work in wildlife
conservation, rescue and rehabilitation, I am fortunate to have close contact with some of north Queensland’s rarest and most endangered species
Our home at Mungarru Lodge Sanctuary in the Kennedy Valley, just north of Cardwell by the Sea, is shared with an amazing diversity of unique flora and fauna providing endless inspiration, interest and color.
My work, income and inspiration are derived from these magnificent north Queensland landscapes, habitats and creatures. The wet tropics is a unique place of exceptional natural beauty; the ideal home for an artist.
My husband, Geoff Moffatt and I have lived in this amazing place for over 30years surrounded by some of the most rare, ancient and beautiful landscapes and creatures on earth, we are privileged indeed!"
