About this item

This helicopter developed out of the collaboration of Nick and Matt. It evokes the image of those crews who provided life-saving transport during the Vietnam conflict.

When I was younger, I dreamed of being a welder one day. Now that I’m a junior in high school I have learned a lot about welding and I’m pretty good at it. Being in this program has also helped me with my tremors. Doing this project was really fun. When we first started we didn’t really see it as a helicopter. Then, we started putting it together and the more we put on it the more it started to look like a helicopter. When we put the final pieces on we were so impressed by our sculpture. All in all, enrolling in this program and working on this project has helped me become a better version of myself.

I came to BOCES to learn how to weld and I love it! Being a part of this project was a good thing for me because we had to use so many welding techniques. It also helped me learn how to take something old and turn it into something better than it was before. It makes me feel good that I made something and that I got to put my hands on a part of history. Now, I am a part of that history.
