About this item

Tracking collars form a critical component of the Waterberg Wild Dog Initiative (WWDI)'s efforts to conserve African wild dogs in the Waterberg. This female in the TOOG Area Pack was fitted with a GPS tracking collar to allow the WWDI to monitor the pack's movements and keep community members informed as the pack moves through formally unprotected, private properties. GPS tracking collars have enabled the WWDI to confirm that the pack ranges across 125,000Ha and over 55 different privately-owned properties.

This photograph was taken by Reilly Mooney, the Project Coordinator for the WWDI, in March 2022 while monitoring the pack in the field to check for signs of dispersal in the 2020 litter of females.
