About this item

For a period of four months, African wild dogs settle into a den site to help rear the alpha female's new pups. During this time, pack members take turns babysitting the pups at the den site. This female, nicknamed 'Number 6' due to the unique coat pattern on her thigh, plays a vital role in helping the alpha female rear litters of pups. Thanks to her nurturing, the TOOG Area Pack recorded a 100% survival in the alpha's 2021 and 2022 litters of pups. This photograph was taken in 2022 while the pack was viewed in the area surrounding their den site.
