With CONTINUUM I, Peter Nutt has developed a sculptural form that unfolds as a continuous movement in space. Emerging from a single, ribbon-like structure, a composition of rotation, opening, and densification is created—one that knows neither beginning nor end.
Through its craftsmanship, the metal loses all sense of weight, appearing instead as a fluid element. The surface, finely patinated and imbued with subtle light reflections, reinforces this impression, allowing the form to shift in appearance depending on the viewer's perspective. Nutt succeeds in translating material into motion without relying on visible construction.
The sculpture exists in a precisely balanced state between tension and repose. It does not describe a fixed form, but rather a state of continuous transformation. Mass and void interlock to create a clear, reduced presence in space.
With this work, Nutt positions himself within the intersection of contemporary sculpture and collectible design. His reduced formal language and conscious approach to material point to a practice defined by clarity, control, and a distinct sensitivity to proportion.
