John Alfred Everest Bennett (1919 - 2017)

John Bennett was born in Norfolk, England and came to Canada at a young age. He studied English Literature at the University of Toronto and was mostly a self-taught artist. He was a captain in the Canadian Infantry during the Second World War, and during this time, painted various landscapes of Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. After the war he was a professional artist and taught art history. He had numerous solo exhibitions and is particularly known for landscape paintings and figure studies. His works can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, The Canadian War Museum, and others.
