Artists Statement
With Ghosts of Three Capes, you turn your back on Stinking Cove, home to the Isle of the Dead, and crouch down to examine the relics cast ashore by the tide. As you lift your head, an atlas of weathered driftwood and shifting shadows unfolds before you, stretching all the way to the horizon. Capturing this low-angle perspective of the landscape you are now invite to engage intimately with the driftwood and fragile sea urchin skeletons- fragments that whisper stories of time, tide, and transformation.
By directing the perspective upward to the mountains, the linocut evokes a quiet grandeur, leading the eye from the intricate textures of shoreline treasures to the distant horizon, reflecting the passage of time and the enduring rhythms of nature. This work embodies the artists deep fascination with Tasmania's coastal landscapes and the delicate interplay between permanence and impermanence that shapes them.
