Supplanting

Chinese betrothal gifts, inspired by those from a Chinese wedding, are set as a still-life composition to mark the formal union of a marriage. Translucent forms, paired with muted colours and diminished details contrasts the prosperous warm analogous colours. This suggests the fading and loss of such traditional practices. Each blended brushstroke conveys the softness of nostalgia, framing this work as a visual archive for the family union and Chinese culture.
