The Surface

The Surface is a black-and-white series of two paintings depicting a magnified view of a large green chafer beetle. This artwork aims to portray the beauty of the insect through an abstract composition of its anatomy, emphasized by the use of lines and tonal contrast. The elytra in each painting is coated with a layer of gloss to replicate the natural shine of the beetle’s shell. Furthermore, the small scale of the painting reflects the creature’s simplicity and diminutive size, thereby amplifying its uniqueness and beauty.
