About this item

Artist:

Katie Clemson (1949–2007) was an Australian-born contemporary artist, printmaker and painter, best known for her finely detailed, multi-coloured linocuts. Her work frequently depicted Australian landscapes and Pittwater boatsheds, and she worked between Australia and the UK. She specialised in relief printing, authored an influential printmaking manual, and was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.

Glass framed linocut print – Limited Edition 6/8

For this body of work, Katie borrowed Susan and Bob’s tinnie and travelled around Pittwater, drawing individual boat sheds directly from the water. These drawings were later translated into linocut prints.

The series was exhibited at Tarrangaua, where many of the works were acquired, and remains a distinctive record of Pittwater’s working waterfront and offshore life
