About this item

This original artwork by Natalia Bennett / n.c.bennett studio features the Wedge-Tailed Eagle, one of the five endangered Tasmanian species represented in the Slow Down for Wildlife campaign currently displayed at Hobart Airport.

Bonorong’s 24/7 Wildlife Rescue Service handles approximately 20,000 calls for wildlife in need every year, and that number is steadily rising. Many of these calls relate to endangered species such as those depicted in works by Hobart-based artist and illustrator Natalia Bennett.

For the last 12 months, artworks featuring the top five endangered species injured on Tasmanian roads have been prominently displayed at Hobart Airport, raising awareness for the plight of the Spotted-tailed Quoll, Masked Owl, Swift Parrot, Tasmanian Devil and Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary CEO Matt Clement said that almost three in four fatal incidents involving Tasmanian wildlife occurred on our roads.

“Wallabies and possums account for the significant majority of animals killed or injured on our roads each and every day,” Mr Clement said. “But our endangered species - those most at risk of extinction - are especially likely to be hit by cars as they feast on carcasses left on or by the side of the road.”

“Natalia’s artwork and the collaboration with Hobart International Airport helps to shine a light on these beautiful creatures, many of which are found nowhere else on planet Earth.”

The proceeds from the sale of this original artwork have been pledged to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary to support the vital work they do in rescuing, treating, rehabilitating and returning injured, orphaned and displaced animals back to the wild.

Full sale proceeds from this original artwork will be donated to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary by artist Natalia Bennett, through Friends of Bonorong.
