About this item

An extremely hard to find set, made in 1949, holding 33 reels and a model C viewmaster viewer. Only 500 sets made, 75 years ago.

The set on offer here was pictured and described thorougly in Harry's VM-book Volume 3.

Born from the passion of viewmaster inventor William Gruber for stereo photography and mushrooms. 'A comprehensive and Authoritative Study in the Field of Mycology'. With 231 stereoscopic macro images that show the mushrooms in a fantastic way. William B. Gruber spent over 11 years and traveled many thousands of miles to gather the photographic material presented in this publication.

Dr. Alexander Hanchett Smith (1904-1986) was a renowned authority on mycology whose contributions to the taxonomy and phylogeny of the higher fungi earned him the honor of having several fungal taxa bear his name. This set of book, stereoscope, and reels forms a true tribute to his life and work.

The set consists of a special reel album with the 33 reels and a viewer in a simulated book container, and the book Mushrooms in Their Natural Habitats, 626 pages; the text being written around the stereoscopic images.

Complete and unique. See the images, as they are part of the description.

Everything is in good shape; the reels are fine with nice colors; the book container has some wear.
