Artist Bio

Susiman Nirmalavasan, a visual artist from Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, works with various mediums including dye methods on board, cloth, and canvas. To compensate for a paucity of conventional materials and establish a unique connection with his art, the artist also employs clay, gravel, charcoal, ash, and tea dye in his works. Through heavy symbolism in his choice of subjects, Nirmalavasan explores the impacts of the civil war. Furthermore, his work delves into the subject of intersectional feminism, portraying mothers as pillars of strength amidst the war while navigating through a patriarchal society.
