The aim of the tour is to explain some of the history of the Walhampton estate.
This will include brief references to the end of the most recent ice age, the stone and bronze ages, the Roman and Norman occupations, the Dissolution of the Monastries, George III and the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars, the early and late C18 English landscape styles, the Burrards of Walhampton - 1668 to 1883-, the early C19 and C20 plantsman's periods, the Heseltines, Morrisons and St Cyreses of Walhampton, architects Richard Norman Shaw, Harold Peto and Edmund Fisher, landscape architect Thomas Mawson, and, the founding of Walhampton School in 1948.
For illustration of the history of the estate, the tour will be preceded by a short presentation in which historic maps, photographs, pictures and plans will be shown.
The tour will follow a circuitous route to include numerous historic arboricultural, architectural and horticultural features.
