Antonia Pesenti / InVisible Mending Zine
About this item
Illustrator and Designer, Antonia Pesenti was inspired by the Tartan Mind Mend brief to create a limited edition handmade zine. InVisible Mending is a step by step guide to the art of mending, showing you how to make your clothes last forever.
InVisible Mending comes with a recycled tartan mending swatch to start you on your visible mending path. Authentic 100% wool tartan swatches provided are off cuts from Australia's premiere Kilt Makers, St Kilda Retail.
Tartan Mind Mind: Tell us about what you do that defines being a creative to you.
Antonia Presenti: I have a very diverse practice, and work across multiple and very different projects at the same time. I see all of them as a kind of problem solving; finding ways to communicate ideas, create beautiful spaces, capture the imagination and make a child smile.
TMM: What creative pursuits, little rituals, or things to look forward to, helped you to keep going during lockdown?
AP: It has been intense, but I have loved having my family around more, and spending more time in nature – long walks, winter swims and an in-depth exploration of all the possible pathways through Cooper Park.
TMM: Tell us a little bit about the zine you made for us?
AP: It was a project I had sketched out earlier in the year after a friend did some beautiful visible mending on my favourite black jumper. When Tartan invited me to be involved in the Mindmend project it seemed like the right moment to push the idea further and turn it into a small, limited edition publication.
TMM: How has the lockdown affected your creative process?
AP: Having a quieter life meant I was able to deep –dive into quite a complex and challenging book project, I felt lucky to have that extra time to explore ideas.
TMM: Being among other things a children’s book illustrator, tell us your favourite children’s book.
AP: That’s hard. I have a huge picture book collection that I constantly refer to. I love Beatrice Alemagna, as well as all of the books published by Planeta Tangerina, an experimental publisher from Portugal.
TMM: When the world opens back up, what is the first thing you would love to do?
AP: I can’t wait to explore museums and art galleries again. I really missed that access to visual culture as a way of re-setting creatively and finding inspiration.
