Summer Days Beanie by Evelyn Young

Created by Evelyn Young of Keringle Arts, Santa Teresa (NT), Summer Days Beanie celebrates children playing amongst the warmth and colours of desert summers. Hand-stitched from locally sourced wool and mixed fibres, the piece blends traditional textile practices with contemporary beanie-making techniques. Selected for the 29th National Beanie Competition, it is exhibited at Araluen Gallery as part of the Alice Springs Beanie Festival. This work reflects community craft, place-based storytelling and the resilience of remote art centres. Evelyn Young paints for the Keringke Arts Centre. The art centre is situated in the community of Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) located eighty kilometres south-east of Alice Springs, with a population of approximately 300.
