The Narrows’ 2018 is part of a suite of artworks titled ‘The Crossings’, comprising paintings and digital prints created in response to historical and contemporary photographs of women, boats and artefacts associated with the sea, rivers and waterways. Delicate line drawings and references to historical maps, bathymetric charts and pictures are layered behind and over the figures and objects. This process of digitally layering and re- layering visual information echoes how easily history fragments can be lost and buried. Sometimes, something is found; a trace, an object, an image that reconnects the past to the present.

Anne Morrison is an artist living with her family in Tasmania’s North-West Born in Glasgow, Scotland; Morrison is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, the Royal College of Art, London and the University of Tasmania, Hobart. Her award-winning paintings are held in private and public collections nationally and internationally - locally, The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the Devonport Regional Gallery, Burnie Regional Gallery, the University of Tasmania, and State Government Collections.

Anne Morrison is represented by Despard Gallery, Hobart.
