Snéhi Jarvis (BFA) is a visually impaired artist and curator, whose previous life-work encompassed multiple roles in health science and education.
Her current artistic passion lies with the Still Life genre; elevating everyday objects to a place of timelessness, what George Kubler calls ‘prime objects’ like plates, bottles, and jars seen throughout history (Bryson 1990, p. 138). Painting with pastels, she enjoys the challenges this medium presents; loving the visual immediacy it provides. Her style is semi-realistic.
Her curatorial passion is seeing the rhythm and continuity of works enabling her to install/exhibit 2D/3D/audio-visual works to promote conversations between the art and viewer. This discursive ‘give and take’ reciprocally enables both parties. If questions arise that is what art is all about; prompting, challenging and encouraging social discourse. In this way the art discourse community can thrive and grow whilst fostering new questions.
The auction artwork is a 2019 abstract acrylic on canvas work painted prior to exploring pastels and still life.
