Within our ngahere the ritual passing of the day plays with the depth of light that is seen through the eyes of our kaitiaki, te Miromiro. Feathered in tuxedoed black and white, our Miromiro flitters between these darkened shades and the contrasting shafts of day. This visual doppler has been re‑formed in laminated acrylic, cut and layered to create a contrast of grey tones that shift and pause as light passes and perspective changes — a synthetic reflection of a simple natural process.
A Henderson Valley artist deeply engaged with both community and environment, Clem Larsen draws upon decades of living in West Auckland’s ngahere to bring a uniquely rooted perspective to his work. Known locally for contributing to conservation‑linked art initiatives and for creating imagery that celebrates native species and habitat, Larsen’s practice reflects a lived connection to place and a commitment to weaving ecological awareness into art that speaks to both heart and home.
