About this item

According to WWF the saola, often called the Asian unicorn, was only discovered in 1992. Little is known about the enigmatic saola in the two decades since its discovery, considering that scientists have categorically documented saola in the wild on only four occasions to date. None exist in captivity and this rarely-seen mammal is already critically endangered. They are found only in the Annamite Mountains of Vietnam and Laos.

Remaining in the wild: unknown.

This papier-mâché art piece was carefully crafted by Silk Laundry Brisbane Store Manger Carla Binotto, using recycled paper from old Silk Laundry magazines and chicken wire.

When Katie Kolodinski came up with the Endangered Species capsule she wanted to spread awareness about some of the critically endangered animals and plants living in our ecosystem. With these pieces, we want to raise awareness that the loss of a species also points to bigger issues within our interconnected ecosystems. By purchasing this item, understand that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Fauna and Flora International, a charity dedicated to saving endangered wildlife.
