Saint Lucia Racer

Fauna & Flora International state that the Saint Lucia Racer now holds the 'title' for world's rarest snake. The Saint Lucia Racer was once abundant on Saint Lucia's main land but today numbers fewer that 20 individuals. Those that survive are confined to a tony offshore island cll Maria Major, having been wiped out from the main land by mongooses and other invasive alien animals introduced y human migration.

This papier-mâché art piece was carefully crafted by Silk Laundry Brisbane Store Manger Carla Binotto, using recycled paper from old Silk Laundry magazines and chicken wire.

When Katie Kolodinski came up with the Endangered Species capsule she wanted to spread awareness about some of the critically endangered animals and plants living in our ecosystem. With these pieces, we want to raise awareness that the loss of a species also points to bigger issues within our interconnected ecosystems.
