About this item

The Orange Bellied Parrot is a small 'grass parrot' and as its name suggest, has an orange patch on its belly. They migrate between the Australian mainland and Tasmania, spending summer breeding in Tasmania and winter in in coastal Victoria and South Australia. It is protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999) and is listed as critically endangered. Threats to the Orange Bellied Parrot include habitat loss, predation by cats & foxes, and inbreeding.

Remaining in the wild: 200.

This papier-mâché art piece was carefully crafted by Silk Laundry Brisbane Store Manger Carla Binotto, using recycled paper from old Silk Laundry magazines and chicken wire.

When Katie Kolodinski came up with the Endangered Species capsule she wanted to spread awareness about some of the critically endangered animals and plants living in our ecosystem. With these pieces, we want to raise awareness that the loss of a species also points to bigger issues within our interconnected ecosystems. By purchasing this item, understand that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Fauna and Flora International, a charity dedicated to saving endangered wildlife.
