About this item

The Chilean crocus, or Tecophilaea cyanocrocus, was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered in 2001. It's been considered "critically endangered" under ICUN guidelines ever since. Despite it being a rock garden plant, the Chilean crocus is endangered in the wild, largely due to collection and grazing sheep.

Remaining in the wild: unknown.

This papier-mâché art piece was carefully crafted by Silk Laundry Brisbane Store Manger Carla Binotto, using recycled paper from old Silk Laundry magazines and chicken wire.

When Katie Kolodinski came up with the Endangered Species capsule she wanted to spread awareness about some of the critically endangered animals and plants living in our ecosystem. With these pieces, we want to raise awareness that the loss of a species also points to bigger issues within our interconnected ecosystems. By purchasing this item, understand that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Fauna and Flora International, a charity dedicated to saving endangered wildlife.
