Bonnie has been an artist all her life, but has been able to really focus on her work after retirement (from Mattel Toys in Los Angeles and SOLV, an environmental non-profit in Portland, Oregon) and moving to Coupeville in 2011. She is originally from Southern California, but escaped to the Pacific Northwest in 1998. Since she is an "orca-holic" she concentrates on orca paintings, but also loves to do pet portraits and graphite pencil people portraits. Bonnie first met orcas as an Earthwatch volunteer at the Center for Whale Research in 1994, and has been learning about them ever since, and was a volunteer naturalist aboard "Mystic Sea" for six years. She was a national board member of the American Cetacean Society, and is now on the board of the Puget Sound Chapter. She has traveled the world (Iceland, Norway, the Antarctic, Canada, Mexico) to see orcas and other cetaceans, but loves returning to home on Penn Cove and "our" lovely whales. She has been volunteering with Orca Network since 2011, and is a dedicated member of the pod.
