Violetta DelConte Race (b. 1991, Germany) works primarily in drawing, printmaking and painting. Her recent drawings, inspired after a period of travel, particularly in Italy, explore a sensitivity to the existence of built-up artefacts, objects, books, manuscripts and artworks, all represented as layers piled up and overlapping, everything interconnected and shared.

This build-up can be seen as a trace of time, as people and objects come and go throughout our lives, and leave traces of themselves behind. The repeated motif of the bag finds significance as a contemplation of what you carry with you or bring to a situation, what parts of the past you bring to the present. Old scraps of paper and hasty scribbles adorn the drawings and find their place as part of a new work.
