Persimmon II, 2015 from the series Boutique Politics
Pigment print, framed

This work was made along a particular route I made everyday from the North East - North West of Melbourne suburbs in which the landscape and architecture dramatically shifts. I began this project by knocking on the door of a particular house that stood to my attention from the way they shielded their garden from the harsh sunny conditions using shear fabrics. I asked for permission to regularly visit their Japanese garden for a period of weeks and photographed their Persimmon tree as it came into bloom in the Autumn season. This is one image from a larger archive, highlighting how I negotiate boundaries to explore the domestic, architecture and horticulture that shape Melbourne. — Nikos Pantazopoulos
