About this item

The heliconia angusta, known as the Christmas Heliconia due to the red and white flowers that usually emerge during the holiday season, is a native to south eastern Brazil. This Heliconia is classified as vulnerable by the IUCN because its natural habitats have been converted to agricultural purposes.

Remaining in the wild: unknown.

This papier-mâché art piece was carefully crafted by Silk Laundry Brisbane Store Manger Carla Binotto, using recycled paper from old Silk Laundry magazines and chicken wire.

When Katie Kolodinski came up with the Endangered Species capsule she wanted to spread awareness about some of the critically endangered animals and plants living in our ecosystem. With these pieces, we want to raise awareness that the loss of a species also points to bigger issues within our interconnected ecosystems. By purchasing this item, understand that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Fauna and Flora International, a charity dedicated to saving endangered wildlife.
