Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz 750mL

Grant Burge Wines was established in 1988 and is located in the heart of the Barossa Valley, where some of Australia’s best wines are produced. Meshach Shiraz displays very big aromas. The nose shows complex savoury and spicy flavours with leather, stewed fruits and vanillin oak characters. The palate is rich with savoury, subtle spice characters, balanced with dark berries, dried plums and complex oak and mocha flavours, with tight tannins leading to a soft back palate, and a very long finish. This is Barossa Shiraz at its best, concentrated, big and bold, and it will cellar for 20+ years or more if you can wait that long. It makes an excellent companion to grilled venison or cheddar cheeses.

Meshach Burge was my great grandfather, the man who started the Burge Winemaking Tradition. Aged 11, he came to the Barossa Valley from "Hillcot", in Wiltshire England, with his family establishing a thriving viticultural wheat and sheep property near Lyndoch. In the late 1860's, under his father's watchful eye, Meshach began winemaking.

In tribute, my finest Shiraz has been chosen to bear his name. Carefully selected fruit from the finest Barossa Vineyards, (some over 100 years old), forms the base of this iconic full-bodied wine, from one of the best vintages I have ever seen. Maturation in the finest oak for 2 years was followed by bottle maturation for 3 years prior to release. Complex, intense with amazing persistence, this wine will improve for at least a decade. Like Meshach Burge, it is built for longevity.
