About this item

Four organic forms interlock to form a geometric tile. Each design, inspired by Chinese papercutting, contains the artist’s family member’s respective Chinese zodiac and name, suggesting a unifying cultural motif. The fitting puzzle and tile symbolise unity and support, reflecting the Chinese belief of family as life’s foundation upheld in the household. This may be emphasised by the repetition of “home” in ancient Chinese on the inner walls. Red contrasting the beige stoneware suggests kinship and prosperity.
