#64 Tidal Gardens – Frog Hollow II
About this item
Artist:
Marion Edols-van den Driesschen (born 1953, Sydney) is a mixed-media artist whose work explores landscape and form through layered, process-driven methods. Drawing on collage, texture and recycled elements from her own paintings, she builds works that move between abstraction and place, creating a lyrical order from complexity.
She studied life drawing and painting at Hornsby TAFE and has exhibited widely, with more than 15 group exhibitions and 14 solo shows. Her work is held in private and corporate collections in Australia, the United States and the Netherlands.
Marion adds: "Tidal Gardens is a series first exhibited at the Washhouse Gallery in 2005, with some of the series later shown in Susan and Bob’s home during the Island H’Arts Festival.
The series was created while I was living on the water at Elvina Bay, in collaboration with my late husband, Michael Edols, who also produced a series of beautiful photographic images during that time. Our shared life there deeply informed the work.
Several paintings were made on the deck, inspired by looking down into the water as it lapped against weathered pylons. Others are impressions of reflections from Elvina Bay, shifting constantly with tide and light. These works reflect a beautiful time spent living within the offshore community and the ever-changing moods of Pittwater. They mark a significant twenty years of my life."
