Bobby Clarke was the 17th overall pick by the Flyers in the 1969 NHL draft, and by 1973 he had been named the captain. Clarke was the driving force behind both 1974 and 1975 Stanley Cup championship teams. Clarke would play 15 seasons with the Flyers and win three Hart Trophies, given to the league's Most Valuable Player.

Clarke was elected to the National Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987, and his #16 Flyers jersey was retired on November 15, 1984.
