About this item

We are honored to offer Fate’s Architects, an original 60cm x 60cm (24in x 24in) oil on canvas by acclaimed Australian contemporary surrealist William D Higginson. Created over 50 hours of dedicated artistry, this thought-provoking piece delves into the essence of fate through surrealist imagery.

A chessboard symbolises that every move in life carries weight, while a towering structure evokes the idea that great achievements are built with strategy and patience, one step at a time. In the background, a subtle clock serves as a poignant reminder that time is an integral part of every journey. As William explains, "What we create depends on how we move forward."

William D Higginson's works have earned international recognition, adorning collections in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and enhancing hundreds of private homes and businesses. Driven by the conviction that "art can change the way you see the world," he aims to provoke thought, evoke deep emotions, and inspire introspection.

His passion for art began at The Southport School on Queensland's Gold Coast, where he formed a lifelong friendship with Sam Ikin. Upon learning of Sam's battle with cancer, William generously donated this piece to support his friend's vital treatment.

Sam Ikin, a devoted 48-year-old father to Bobby (14), Teddy (11), and Roy (3), received a heartbreaking diagnosis a year ago: stage four poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form with a 24-month prognosis and no curative conventional treatments available. Drawing on his background in investigative journalism, Sam researched integrative options and selected Hope4Cancer, a clinic in Mexico founded by Dr. Antonio Jimenez. For over 25 years, it has provided non-toxic, scientifically supported therapies to help the body combat cancer and works with, rather than against, the traditional oncology 'standard of care' approaches.

The treatment and travel require an additional $65,000, and Sam's GiveSendGo campaign has already raised over $50,000 allowing him to begin this path. Having lost his own father to suicide at 16, Sam is resolute in extending his time to guide his sons through their formative years.

All proceeds from this auction will directly benefit Sam's cancer-fighting fund. Bidding opens on September 26, 2025, and closes at 5:00 PM on October 20, 2025. William will ship the artwork from his home in Canada to any destination worldwide. This is more than an acquisition—it's an opportunity to contribute to a story of hope, resilience, and enduring friendship. Your bid could make a profound difference.
