Cruachan Highland Cattle is one of Australia's most established Highland studs, founded in 1987 and renowned for preserving pure Scottish bloodlines. For nearly four decades, they have bred structurally sound, quiet-natured cattle with no grading-up from other breeds. Their program has consistently focused on strong conformation, calm temperaments, and maintaining genetic integrity. As they transition to a smaller property, Cruachan is making a final offering of select heifers—an exceptional opportunity to secure genetics from one of the country’s most respected Highland herds.
Joining them in this special event is MacAnLeister Highlands, a dedicated Highland cattle stud based in South Australia. Established in 2015, MacAnLeister focuses on cultivating cattle with calm dispositions and traditional Highland traits, working exclusively with fully imported bloodlines tracing back to the original UK Herdbook. Their breeding program reflects a shared commitment to preserving the Highland breed’s heritage and quality.
All Highlands in the sale are:
- Registered (or registerable) with the AHCS
- Fully Imported Bloodlines (FIB)
- DNA tested and proof of parentage
- Free of the nt821 myostatin gene
- Vaccinated with 7-in-1 (and in some cases Pestigard)
- Females are pregnancy tested in calf (if older than 2 years)

Bidding Format & Timeline
- This is an online-only auction.
- Bidding opens at 9:00am and closes at 7:00pm (SA Time) on Sunday, 20th July 2025.
Viewing of Stock
- All sale cattle may be viewed on-farm by appointment during the fortnight prior to the auction.

Eligibility to Bid
All bidders must:
- (i) Hold a current Property Identification Code (PIC)
- (ii) Be a member of the Australian Highland Cattle Society (AHCS)
Payment Terms
- Full payment is required within 72 hours of the close of bidding via electronic funds transfer (EFT).
- A tax invoice will be issued.
Currency & GST
- All prices are listed in Australian Dollars (AUD) and are exclusive of GST.
- GST will be added to the final sale price and included on your invoice.
Transport & Collection
- Successful bidders are responsible for organising their own transport.
- All cattle must be collected within 14 days of the auction closing, unless otherwise arranged (e.g. for tick treatment).
- Loading facilities for trucks and trailers are available.
- Recommendations for reliable livestock transporters can be provided upon request.
Inclusions with Sale
- The sale price includes transfer of ownership with the AHCS into the buyer’s name.
Health, Testing & Background of Stock
All Highland cattle offered in this auction are:
- Registered or Registerable with the AHCS
- From Fully Imported Bloodlines (FIB)
- DNA parent-verified
- NT821 myostatin-free (tested)
- Vaccinated with 7-in-1 and in some cases Pestigard
- Pregnancy tested (females over 2 years)
- Embryo dams and AI sires are registered as such with the Australian Highland Cattle Society
- PTIC (Pregnancy Tested In Calf) - We shall not be responsible if the pregnancy does not result in the birth of a live calf.
Right to Refuse Bids
- We reserve the right to refuse any bid at our discretion.
Additional info
Where the successful bidder requires additional vet inspections, tick vaccines, liver fluke testing etc. which requires animals to remain with MacAnLeister longer the associated costs and agistment fees will be negotiated.
