'Lost Flowers' Handmade Frock
About this item
This unique gown has been lovingly crocheted over six months by Federal MP Dr Anne Aly. All proceeds go towards Orana House, whose mission is to build a community free from Family Domestic Violence (FDV).
In her own words:
"Ending violence against women and children is something I’m passionate about as a member of federal parliament, as a Minister, as a mother and as a survivor of domestic violence.
All women have a right to feel safe in their community but, for too many, this isn’t the case: In 2023, sixty-four women were tragically taken from us, due to violence against women.
And, according to Counting Dead Women Australia, this year (until June 19) we’ve already lost 36 women due to the scourge of gendered violence.
This is a national crisis. Everyone has a role to play in ending violence against women, including governments, businesses, community groups and individuals.
For this year’s Federal Parliament Press Gallery Midwinter Ball, I’ve lovingly crocheted a ‘Lost Flowers’ dress with 64 unique blooms in honour of the women who were senselessly killed in 2023. The dress will raise money and awareness for Orana House and their frontline services, which are helping women and children experiencing family and domestic violence in the Perth community."
The gown is handmade with 100% cotton yarn and fits a size 8 - 12. It can also be adjusted to fit the lucky winning bidder! Bid now for your chance to own a piece of feminist history, while also helping to switch the course of FDV in Australia.
