Sujeewa Kuman's works blur the line between truth and fiction through her work which includes paintings, digital photography, video, and performance art. Kumari deals with notions of social identity and women in a post-colonial context, using colonial photographs to form the central theme of her current body of work and provide illuminating juxtapositions. Drawing from highly detailed and characterised images, Kuman's process involves transforming these visuals by juxtaposing and overlapping the media and painting over it. The artist uses the idea of old and new, combining them with native landscapes to create depth and perspective by using layers of histones, memories and cultural images which emerge in tension between the local and global.

Floating Eyes
Sujeewa Kumari represents a poetic visual space trapezing tactfully between the real and the imagined. The artist attempts to resolve two states that are easily dichotomized: the dream state and 'reality'.
