Dianne Blake - Moonbird in flight
About this item
Dianne Blake
Moonbird in flight, 2023
oil, pva on canvas
Two at 43x43 cm framed.
This piece is pertaining to the exceptional journey the Moonbird (muttonbird/shearwater) takes from the far Northern Hemisphere to the King Island coastal rookeries where they breed and rare their chicks, departing these colonies in April for their annual migration of 30,000kms to feeding grounds as far away as the Arctic Ocean off Alaska.
The King Island habitats and environments are vulnerable as more areas are changed through human impacts, and the affect from global warming and the extreme conditions. Landcare has worked to levitate some of these changes and assist in reestablishing environments that benefit the diverse and unique landscapes and habitats of King Island.
